Monologue: The Price of Being A Woman

You know, being a woman is a full-time job—with overtime, no benefits, and, in some places, no rights! We multitask like pros—running businesses, leading teams, raising families, and, oh yeah, creating human life. No big deal. Meanwhile, some people still think “girl boss” is just a cute slogan instead of our daily reality.

And let’s talk about the fine print of womanhood, shall we? In the United States, our reproductive rights are under attack like it’s a national sport. Laws keep changing faster than my cycle when I’m stressed—and trust me, I’m stressed. The government wants to control our bodies, but will they cover child care, paid leave, or even basic healthcare? Nope. But they will make sure we pay a luxury tax on tampons. A luxury tax. As if I wake up every month and say, “Hmm, I think I’ll treat myself… to some cramps, bloating, and existential dread!”

And don’t even get me started on the men who say, “Why don’t you just hold it in?” Sir, if I had that level of control, do you think I’d be bleeding on purpose? I’d be making millions in the NBA with that kind of muscle control!

But here’s the thing: Women have been pushing through every obstacle for centuries. We lead, we fight, we create change—whether we’re CEOs, activists, mothers, or all of the above at the same time. So today, on International Women’s Day, let’s celebrate our resilience, demand our rights, and maybe—just maybe—ask for a tax refund on all the “luxuries” we never signed up for.
